Oh My Gulay! A Vegetarian Restaurant in Baguio City
June 03, 2019
Another work of art to see! Baguio has so much to offer in terms of exhibiting the artistic beauty and culture of the city. Although Baguio is already occupied by modern cafes and restaurants, Oh My Gulay sets the standard for a vegetarian restaurant that combines art and food.
Oh My Gulay! is a vegetarian-friendly restaurant situated at the heart of Session Road. Known for its outrageous artistic and rustic design, customers will really feel different from this one-of-a-kind place. It is located on the 5th floor of the La Azotea Building. You wouldn’t even know from the outside that there’s a whole different world that lives within its doors.
It is designed by the National Artist for Film, Kidlat Tahimik himself. We went to one of his restaurants that has the same ambiance of Oh My Gulay. (READ: Ili-likha Artist Village: Baguio's Creative Food Park) It features various wood pieces of furniture that add to the whole organic feels of the place. It’s not as ‘messy’ as Ili-likha but it surely is stunning too. There’s an art exhibit area near the entrance where (I guess) independent artists can rent the area for their art exhibitions.
This vegetarian restaurant is widely acclaimed not just because of the artistic design of the place, but also its food! Since we came here for lunch, we ordered their rice meal, Bandilang Pula (P175) and their famous pasta, Heneral Luna’s Punyetang Shitake (P175). Bandilang Pula consists of mountain rice, vegetables, Mongolian sauce, tofu, and omelet. As someone who really likes meat, I was surprised that this meal tasted much more flavorful than the usual rice-meat meal. The Mongolian sauce was a nice touch for our craving taste buds. As funny as it sounds, the Heneral Luna’s Punyetang Shitake was really good and creamy. It was a bit sweet for our liking but it has a nice lasting taste. Both meals were huge in serving that we had a hard time finishing it. It can be a little pricey but hey, it’s healthy and worth it!
We were seated near a big window so we had a great view of the city plus the cool breeze of fresh air!
If the price was a little bit adjusted back to its original price, then it could have been a 10/10. The old prices by the way are from P100-150. But I guess, the P175 is pretty worth it considering the huge serving plus the ambiance they offer. Comparing it however to its sister restaurant, Ili-likha, this restaurant is much more expensive. Oh My Gulay isn’t hard to reach since it’s only located at Session Road. Make sure you visit this place and Ili-likha (Read: Ili-likha Artist Village: Baguio's Creative Food Park) for a whole new experience of knowing Baguio’s vibrant art scene. Let’s support local!
Walk towards the BDO branch in Upper Session Road and just beside it is the La Azotea Building. Climb your way up to the 5th floor where you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to another world!
