Staying at a 500-peso hotel in Baguio
May 27, 2019
With the large influx of tourists in Baguio, hotels and transients did not just increase in numbers but also in prices. We can’t blame them because they have to earn for their living. However, not all hotels are determined by this price increases. Surprisingly enough, you can still stay at a decent hotel for only 500/pax per night! (Including breakfast!)
Location: 4/5
What’s good about Hotel Henrico Kisad is that it is located at approximately 750m from Burnham Park. The town proper is only a stone throw away from this hotel. Comparing it to nearby hotels in Burnham and Session Road, this hotel would just stand out among the rest. Rooms for four people even start for 250/pax/night! But of course, knowing Baguio, it can be hard to walk around places especially because roads are either steep or slippery. Nevertheless, if you enjoy walking around in cold mornings with your jacket, then you wouldn’t mind the location of this hotel.
ROOM: 4/5
Once you see the past reviews of this hotel online, you’ll see dozens of raging customers complaining about their rooms. I saw some of the old pictures of their rooms and I would definitely agree with those reviews. However, if you visit the hotel now from their lobby to their rooms, you would see how huge the amount of change they’ve invested in. Rooms are surprisingly modernized and chic. Their lobby even looks very much like a café! Going back, the room where we stayed in was really nice and clean. The bathroom may need a bit of tile change because yellow tiles tend to look dirty for some people. Despite that, everything was amazing! Bed and pillow sheets are clean, cabinets are pretty neat, complete toiletries (towels, toothbrush, slippers, soap, shampoo) are provided, and a flat-screen TV with cable works! More than anything else, all of the rooms have windows, either the city or forest view. Both give you the Baguio ambiance. Wifi is also available inside the hotel (up to the rooms), registering up to 7-10mb/s, which is pretty fast.
Breakfast: 3/5
Breakfasts consist of the typical silog meals, only that it is not fried rice. Nothing special, we only liked their sweet and garlic longganisas because it tastes like ‘legit’ longganisas. There is also unlimited coffee to complete your meal. For the price they offer, we can say that it's satisfying enough.
Service: 5/5
From check-in to check-out, staffs will happily help and greet you. They’re very polite and welcoming to any of your requests. They even allow you to check in earlier than 2pm if a room is available. You can also leave your bags at the counter during check out. Staffs know that their hotel isn’t as grand as most of the hotels in Baguio but they surely want their customers to feel like they are with their service.
OVERALL VERDICT: 8/10
Considering the price that they offer, Hotel Henrico Kisad is surely a gem of the city. It’s definitely a bang for your buck! This hotel is a proof that you don’t need to spend too much to get a rewarding hotel experience. 500 pesos is already enough to get you a decent stay and breakfast!
How to book
Agoda: Book here!
Traveloka: Book here!
Its posted price in Agoda is 1,000/night for two persons and 1,790/night for four persons (already includes breakfasts).
TIP: Always book hotels in incognito mode during Monday nights. This is the time where prices are the cheapest. Believe me. Tested this one multiple times.
