Going back in time at 50s Diner Baguio

July 21, 2019

Who can’t love American diners? With the neon lights, old floor tiles, classic jukebox, and mouth-watering menu, it is no wonder that diners are loved by almost everyone. Thankfully, Baguio has one of the best diners you can find in the Philippines. Recreating your favorite Hollywood movie diner scenes? Then, you’d want to definitely check out this place!

50S DINER BAGUIO
50s Diner is located at the 4th Floor of Porta Vaga Mall along Session Road. Yep, it’s inside the city proper. They have their own place before at Leonard Wood which was demolished down. Nevertheless, 50s diner aesthetic is surely a thing you won’t go amiss. A brightly colored combination of neon pink and violet will captivate you. From ceilings to diner chairs, you’d realize that you really are inside a diner.

There are photos of the 50s and 60s Hollywood’s biggest celebrities, from Audrey Hepburn to The Beatles. Staffs are also dressed in diner uniforms. Yep, we're going back in time.

Other than appreciating the aesthetic of this diner, whether you are a tourist or a local, everyone goes here because of the food. More than its affordability, they serve you with very large servings, enough to satisfy your cravings. Trust us when we say that everything on their menu is worth it. We ordered some of their bestsellers to prove you how 50s diner embodies the description of being “worth every penny”.

THE FOOD

We had their (from left) Diner’s Rice (P105), Famous 50s Burger (P115), and Grilled Pork Belly (P145) for lunch. All were enough for 2 people but of course, if you’re a big eater like us, then you’d enjoy huge meals like these. Their burgers are just heavenly that you want to taste every kind of it on their menu. The pork belly was supple and had the right taste of sweetness. Their chicken wasn’t something to rave about but it’s good if you’re comparing it to the fast-food ones.

We paired it with their famous Ice Cream Milkshakes in different flavors of Vanilla, Strawberry, and Chocolate for only P95 each. Achieve your Riverdale scenes by having a milkshake in a diner!

For dinner, we went for their best budget saver meal which was Mama’s Kidd (P125). It’s a combination of chicken, sweet spag, fries, and kropeck, serve with rice. It’s the definition of a kid’s meal. Try it to know why it is a definite bestseller. We paired it with Ripe Mango fruit shake (P90) that quenched our thirst.

OVERALL VERDICT: 9/10
If you’re on a budget but still want to have a fresh dining experience, then 50s diner is certainly the best choice. We recommend it to couples and groups because their servings are really large that everyone in the group will be satisfied afterwards. 50s diner's place is a bit small considering that many customers visit this place, especially on weekends. But it’s surely worth the wait chiefly if you would love to experience going back in time for a while.
